Summary
After reviewing the DoD Unified Capabilities Requirements (UCR), a Federal Agency determined that its current method of encrypting communications, the ECTOCRYP Black Gateway, and supporting ecosystem were non-compliant with the current cyber standards. So, it began looking for ways to meet the standards. After meeting with the Agency’s Project Manager, Network Engineer, Head of Cyber Security, and other key staff members, REDCOM was able to provide a solution.
The Challenge
Currently, the Airbus ECTOCRYP Black Gateway cannot natively support SIP or VoIP. It requires additional gateways on both the Black and Red Enclave sides to convert SIP to and from TDM, meaning upgrading the existing system would be costly and time-consuming. The Agency was also concerned with the cost of incorporating a third-party application. The Agency was looking for a simple solution to support their two locations for the IP migration, requiring around 20 Type 1 ACC-compliant ports.
The Solution
The accepted solution was to fully replace both Airbus ECTOCRYP Black Gateways with REDCOM’s SVG-1200. The SVG-1200 is a turnkey solution for Black/Red Enclave communications through its native SIP integration and the intuitive Sigma software. Once REDCOM completes the on-site survey, installation, rack elevations, and training, the Agency will be up and running at full speed.
The SVG-1200 is UCR and Type-1 NSA ACC compliant through its native SIP support and incorporation of General Dynamics Sectéra® vIPer™ devices as red/black encryptors. Each SVG-1200 device can support up to 12 Sectéra® vIPers™, while each holding rack can expand support up to 60 Sectéra® vIPers™ and 90 SIP IP phones in the Red Enclave. This allows the Federal Agency to support their required 20 Sectéra® vIPers™ at each location with room for expansion.
The auto re-key and auto-unlock features, along with the native SIP support, mean the SVG-1200 requires less maintenance/human intervention than the Airbus ECTOCRYP, saving time and money.
Moving Forward
Once the SVG-1200 is successfully installed, the Federal Agency will have access to 24/7 customer support and a comprehensive maintenance plan in the unlikely event that something goes wrong. The SVG-1200 is available for purchase with GSA Advantage, has been tested by JITC, and is on the DISA APL.
