Kara Martin is the VP of Human Resources at REDCOM. Within her role, Kara is responsible for working with all of the people at REDCOM – from communicating with the leadership team to develop strategies that can drive business, to listening to and collaborating with employees. She’s focused on fostering a great culture at REDCOM and keeping our top talent while attracting new talent to our workforce.
Kara graduated from Siena College with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, and later went on to receive her master’s degree in Organizational Management from Nazareth. She began her career at the YMCA of Greater Rochester where she worked for over a decade and the idea of the “ethics of hard work” was formed early on. In this position, Kara learned a lot about leadership development, managing people, managing a budget, training, and programming. Kara later worked for D4, a rapidly growing company in downtown Rochester, where she was hired as the Mission, Vision, and Character Advancement Director, and later Director of Human Resources. Here she created onboarding and manager training programs and helped to form their company culture. Having worked with Elevate Rochester, an organization that focuses on fostering and recognizing ethical practices in the business community, Kara knew she wanted to work for local leadership, and began working at Gorbel as their Human Resources Business Partner. There she supported the office and manufacturing sides of the business, acting as a partner to management and employees.
With her background in sociology, and knowledge and experience in organizational management, Kara is well suited for her role at REDCOM. She has an authentic interest in listening to others and finds open and honest communication of the utmost importance. Working at REDCOM, she is excited about learning from those who have been with the company for decades and finding the right people who will fit seamlessly with the company culture. Kara spends all her free time with her husband and two young daughters outdoors hiking and biking, and loves finding local concerts and listening to live music.
