In January of 2022, REDCOM announced that it joined The Open Group SOSA™ Consortium. This vendor-neutral forum allows industry and government organizations to work together to develop capabilities and modular, open sensor systems in line with DoD and U.S. Army initiatives.
Currently, the consortium is working to modernize the integrated radio systems in military vehicles through the “SOSA Chassis”. The chassis houses a multi-vendor-compatible compute platform that runs software-defined radio (SDR) cards. This allows warfighters to conveniently swap and add software-defined radio cards to more reliably communicate in joint force operations. The SOSA chassis has no physical interface and requires a laptop or similar device to manage.
As a company specializing in RoIP, VoIP, and RF interoperability, REDCOM is leading the discussions for session controller and intercom system standards used to manage and interface radio comms in SOSA Chassis. Our work with the Sigma C2 Software and Sigma C2 Console has provided us with the necessary knowledge to show what standards are necessary to make implementing SOSA Chasses into existing communication networks as simple and efficient as possible.
About the Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA) Consortium
The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA) Consortium aims to create a common framework for transitioning sensor systems to an open systems architecture, based on key interfaces and open standards established by industry-government consensus. The SOSA Consortium enables government and industry to collaboratively develop open standards and best practices to enable, enhance, and accelerate the deployment of affordable, capable, interoperable sensor systems.
